A New Adventure

Posted by Deb Kelly on Sunday, October 14, 2018, In : Retirement

Yes, I'm laughing because I have gone back to work!  What about retirement, you ask?  Well, this little adventure is only for six weeks.  I wanted something different to do, and I sure got that.  I'm working as a legal secretary doing tasks and projects I'm unfamiliar with.  Fun times!  I do enjoy a challenge and I'm sure based on my past performance, I'll have this job down within a week.  I have orientation on Monday and went in last Thursday and Friday to be trained.

I also got a piece of g...

Retired at 62

Posted by Deb Kelly on Monday, October 8, 2018, In : Retirement

When the offer came, I was stunned.  "I only have three years to go," I thought to myself.  "I'm not ready."  But then, I thought about I was actually being offered and realized very quickly that my thinking about retirement had always been based on other peoples' dreams.  Ultimately, I knew that if I could be able to afford my basic necessities, with a little left over to save for travel, I could take this step at any time.

I'd never taken the time to really get to know who I am or what I wan...

Simple Pleasures

Posted by Deb Kelly on Thursday, December 8, 2016, In : achieving wellness

Simple pleasures are just that: simple! Forget fancy and think basic, everyday things that brighten your mood when you take time to notice them.

1) Being outside:
Fresh air boosts your mood and your vitamin D levels.

2) Seeing someone you love: It doesn't matter if the last time you saw them was 5 weeks or 5 minutes ago. It rocks every time.

3) Being home alone: You hear that? Nope, we didn't either. And it's glorious.

4) Dancing: Nothing makes dinner taste as delicious as a kitchen dance party...

How to be Truly Happier

Posted by Deb Kelly on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, In : achieving wellness

  1. Happier-ness isn’t something you feel, but something you do. It’s a skill every one of us has and can improve by regularly practicing the scientifically-proven habits of gratitude, kindness, and mindfulness.
  2. It’s OK to be not OK. True emotional well-being is not the absence of negative emotions. It’s the practice of strengthening your emotional immune system so that you learn how to be OK even when not everything is OK.
  3. “I’ll be happy when…” is the surest way to never feel happy...

The Sacred Secret of Love

Posted by Deb Kelly on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, In : achieving wellness

Written by Jafree Ozwald

Your true nature is love itself. This is the only kind of love that is real and everlasting. This love cannot be damaged, altered, threatened or changed in any way. It pours out of you naturally when your mind is calm and at ease, and it opens your heart to the God Source, flooding your body with absolute elation.  Every day that you choose to do those gentle and kind things to yourself, those things that bring deep peace into your heart (such ...

The Top 10 Causes of Enlightenment

(and how to transcend ANY experience of suffering)

Written by Jafree Ozwald

"Enlightenment is the moment when the wave realizes that it is water." ~Thich Nhat Hanh

Enlightenment is not something that can be given to you. Whatever that has been given to you, can also be taken away from you. You must find this great spiritual liberation within yourself, and learn how to cultivate it's presence in your life, as you are the master of it all...

Three Tips to Begin A Meditation Practice

Posted by Deb Kelly on Thursday, January 15, 2015, In : achieving wellness

What happens when you begin to meditate is that you begin to feel into yourself. You become aware of how you feel physically and emotionally. You start to gain insight into your life and your purpose. Intuition becomes more and more clear, and when you consider your intention, you become a superfeeler.

Meditation practices focus on the breath. There are so many techniques that involve different things to do with the breath. You can count the breath as it comes and goes, holding the breath at t...

Magic Meditation for Motivation

"To the mind that is still, the whole Universe surrenders."  ~Lao Tzu

Quieting the mind chatter is not always something we want to do.  Especially when life can be so entertaining, with so many activities, task lists to accomplish, and people to meet and greet along the way.  The frantic desperate non-meditative mind has become the norm of our society, and the cause of all social injustice and corruption.  Once everyone learns the art and sci...

The Magical Power of Detachment

Posted by Deb Kelly on Thursday, October 9, 2014, In : achieving wellness

Written by Jafree Ozwald

“The law of detachment means that in order to acquire anything in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it. This doesn’t mean you give up your intention to create your desire. You don’t give up the intention, and you don’t give up the desire. You give up your attachment to the result.” ~Deepak Chopra

The wise Buddha once said, “Attachment Leads to Suffering”. What he meant by this was that whenever we bec...

Responding to Conflict

Posted by Deb Kelly on Friday, September 26, 2014, In : achieving wellness

Due to recent complications in my life, I've decided to share my thoughts here on my blog, so I'm taking it in a new direction.  I'm getting off the social networks for a while and will be spending time here at Picnicgal's Place.

Starting the series will be this wonderful article I saw today regarding responding to conflict.  It's something I really needed to see at this particular time.  The Universe is a wonderful place.

The Trouble With Love

Posted by Deb Kelly on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, In : Songs
These are the lyrics to "The Trouble With Love" by Kelly Clarkson.  This song keeps going through my head.  I loved it the first time I heard it on the movie "Love Actually" and have been listening to it today.  I agree with her words.

Love can be a many splendored thing
Can't deny the joy it brings
A dozen roses, diamond rings
Dreams for sale and fairy tales
It'll make you hear a symphony
And you just want the world to see
But like a drug that makes you blind
It'll fool ya every time
